I know… I know. You’re probably asking yourself “how old is she?” and “how long has she been married?” but the truth is that I’ve never had to cook an entire holiday meal before today. Between my family and Phil’s family, who both live in town, we’re always making rounds on the holidays. I’m also not too sure whether or not anyone even thinks I’m skilled at cooking since I’m usually assigned to bring dessert or salad. But the truth be told, I’m pretty freaked out about cooking anything for anyone besides my hubby. He’s got such a bad since of smell (which totally affects his taste buds) that I can get away with pretty much anything…well almost anything.
But I digress…
Today I made my very first Christmas dinner. This year is Zoe’s first Christmas and our first official Christmas as a family. The menu included: Fig and Orange Glazed Ham, Martha Stewart’s incredible Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potato Casserole and Mixed Vegetables.
Zoe indulged in ham, potatoes and veggies and was literally screaming and clawing for more. Phil sat down to eat his dinner…which turned into him shoveling his dinner… and exclaimed how this “really was the best Christmas ever.” And although I graciously smiled and shrugged it off as if it were just another meal, I secretly wanted to stand in the middle of the living room floor, waving my hands and doing my happy dance.
There’s definitely a feeling of pride you get seeing your family chow down with voracious appetites and smiling faces. I think this might be the first of many more holiday dinners to come…well I guess I don’t have too much of a choice…but I’m totally embracing it now.
